What readers need to know

Pacific Grove's official November election page lists August 14–24 as the public-examination period for primary arguments concerning Measure R. During that period, a registered city voter or the elections official may seek a writ of mandate or injunction to amend or delete material alleged to be false, misleading or inconsistent with election-law requirements. The City Clerk page does not state a closing hour for August 24, so MyPG.news is not inventing one.

Measure R would establish a 0.375% transactions-and-use tax for ten years. Its ballot language estimates approximately $1 million in annual revenue for general city services and states that the money would remain locally controlled with independent audits.

The City Clerk currently links the City Attorney's impartial analysis and a primary argument in favor, and states that no primary argument against was submitted. The analysis is an official government document; the argument in favor is campaign advocacy. The rebuttal filing deadline was August 20, while the city-listed public-examination period for any rebuttal runs August 21–31. No rebuttal document link appeared on the official page during the August 24 review. That absence is not proof that no rebuttal was filed, and MyPG.news will add any document the City Clerk publishes.
