What readers need to know
The National Weather Service issued a coastal flood advisory for Northern Monterey Bay, Southern Monterey Bay and the Big Sur coast from 9 a.m. Friday, October 9, through 3 p.m. Tuesday, October 13. Up to 1.2 feet of inundation above ground level is possible in low-lying shoreline and tidal areas. The advisory says high tides may flood parks and roads, cut off access to some low-lying beaches and coastal trails, and push water and waves farther up the beach than usual. Pacific Grove residents and shoreline visitors should allow extra travel time, avoid flooded roads and obey barricades.
