Follow-up: Monterey County's official beach table says Lovers Point reopened without restriction on August 24.
An August 20 retest showed enterococcus below 10 organisms per 100 milliliters, after the August 18 sample exceeded the county's single-sample standard.
This replaces the earlier no-contact advisory for Lovers Point; swimmers should still check the county table and posted signs before entering the water.
What readers need to know
This is a follow-up to MyPG.news' August 20 report that Monterey County had advised no ocean contact at Lovers Point after an August 18 sample exceeded the enterococcus standard. The earlier report remains preserved in the archive and is linked below as part of the source history.
The county's official Lovers Point table was updated August 24 at 8:14 a.m. to say the beach was open without restriction. The table shows the August 20 follow-up sample with enterococcus below 10 organisms per 100 milliliters, under the county's single-sample criterion of 104. The county also lists the 30-day log-mean result as acceptable.
A Monterey Herald headline published later August 24 described Lovers Point as closed. MyPG.news is not using that later headline as the current status because it conflicts with the county's primary record. The official county table controls this update. Beach conditions can change after later testing, so readers should check the live county result and signs at Lovers Point before entering the water. This report does not make a claim about Spanish Bay's current status.
