CAL FIRE's Wednesday update lists 17,817 acres and 23% containment. Compared with the agency values last verified by MyPG.news Tuesday evening, that is 1,449 additional acres and a four-percentage-point decrease in the official containment estimate. The incident page does not explain the containment revision, so MyPG.news is reporting the changed official value without inferring a cause.

CAL FIRE says the fire crossed Ventana Creek and continues uphill through the Lion Creek drainage toward Ventana Double Cone and the upper Carmel River basin. Fire is also spreading north and east near the forks of the Big Sur River and South Fork. Crews are improving secondary lines near Pico Blanco Camp and building line from Bottcher Gap and Kincannon Road toward Los Padres Dam.

Near-critical fire weather is expected, with temperatures near 90 degrees, single-digit relative humidity, southwest winds in the mid-teens and poor overnight humidity recovery. Those conditions can increase fire activity and smoke production.

The agency's published list remains at 11 evacuation-order entries and 22 warning entries. CAL FIRE still lists MRY-FO15-B in both its order and warning sections. California State Parks says Point Sur State Historic Park, Andrew Molera State Park, Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park and Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park are closed until further notice because of the Timber Fire. Asilomar State Beach is not included in that closure list.
